Xiao Mei has come a long way since she first sang solo, with her hands trembling as she played the guitar. Recent collaborations have included a world music endeavor with Brazilian musicians. The older people in her family used to ask her: “Is that all you are going to do with your life?” Now she can respond to their questions with confidence.
